03 Jun The design process: Rejected ‘The Shining’ poster art

At DesignStreet, we are used to working through rounds of client feedback. This part of the creative process can ultimately push us further and creates results.

Design Buddy and TOH have published the rejected poster designs from Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film ‘The Shining’. The posters were created by legendary graphic designer Saul Bass, who is best known for his movie posters.

Featuring hand written notes from Kubrick, the rejected posters highlight that working with Kubrick was not a “design and done” deal. The director was intimately involved with his film’s marketing and had a clear idea how this should be visualised.
